Hunter's Birth

Wow, what an amazing week I've had. Hunter Larry Powers thankfully decided to come a couple days before his due date. I had been having strong contractions the last month of my pregnancy but Monday evening they started to come on even stronger and more intense but they were only 10 minutes apart. At about 6:00 p.m. I told Cody that we needed to go on a walk to help the contractions come closer together. We walked and walked and walked until they were coming about 7 minutes apart. That's when I decided it was too painful and we needed to go home so I could sit down. As soon as I sat down my contractions slowed down too and they were back to every 10 minutes. We put Jackson down to bed and at around midnight I told Cody to go to bed too because the baby just wanted to take his time. I was up ALL night that night with VERY painful contractions coming only about 7-10 minutes apart. By 6:00 a.m. I was so exhausted and frustrated. I went in the bedroom and just broke down and started bawling. I told Cody I couldn't do it anymore and that's how I truely felt. Well, Heavenly Father must have had mercy on me because at that exact moment my contractions started to come every 4 minutes. I waited about an hour and told Cody "This is it! Call your Mom! We are going to have a baby today!" His Mom came to the house to watch Jackson and we left for the hospital. We got there about 8:30 a.m. and they checked me and I was dilated to a 6 and 70 percent efaced. They put me in a room and by this time my contractions were even more intense and more painful. I asked for an epidural around 9:30 and they told me that the anestesiologist was busy with an emergency c-section and I would have to wait. So I got on a medicine ball and bounced through my contractions which suprisingly really helped. Keri and Tara (my sister in-laws) came to keep me company and that really helped too. I didn't get my epidural until 11:30 am and by that time I was dilated to a 7 and 90 percent efaced. The epidural was heaven! I rested for the next few hours and around 3:00 I started feeling pressure. The nurse checked me and said I was a 10 and asked me to give her a practice push. I gave a quick push and Cody said "Lis! I can see his hair!" The nurse said we were gonna have the baby NOW and quickly grabbed the doctor. Tara left the room to go get Sherry (my mother-in-law) who had come to see the baby born. The doctor came in the room and had me push. It only took two contractions and Hunter was born at 3:23 p.m. By the time Sherry got to the room Hunter was already out! He weighed 8 lbs 8 oz and was 21 1/4 inches long. He was perfect! He started to cry right away and they put him on my chest. He laid on me skin to skin for the next hour and a half and we all just couldn't stop staring at him. I am so grateful for the little miracle that has come into my life! He is such a mellow baby. He is great at nursing and he just mostly eats and sleeps. I am loving life right now!

Wow! I haven't been on here forever! We've had a pretty busy few months. Cody got a new job working with the same group of companies. He's now a Regional Sales Manager which requires him to travel a lot. Jackson and I also traveled quite a bit this summer. We went to Utah a couple times, went to Disneyland with Cody and some family members, and we also traveled to Las Vegas with Cody for work and from there went to St. George for Cody's family reunion. Things are slowing down a bit and we're looking forward to it cooling off down here. Jackson is getting so big and he does the cutest things every day. He's really into letters and numbers right now so we've been working a lot on the alphabet. He knows all the capital letters and we're working on lower case. He also knows the numbers 1-10. I just can't believe how mature he's getting, my baby is growing up! I will slowly add pictures as I have time. But here's just a few...

Cody took the day off today and we went to the zoo. We were a little worried that Jackson might not like it but he was an angel the whole time. We fed the girafes, saw all the great animals, went to the petting zoo and rode the carosel. Jackson loved everything except the carosel, by the time it stopped spinning he was screaming. Oh well, you can't win 'em all, right?

Easter

We had a great Easter sunday. We got up in the morning and ate crepes and jackson got a little Easter basket. Then we got to watch conference all day and what great talks this session! Especially all the talks about moms. Then we went to Grandma and Grandpa Power's house and had a great dinner.

So I decided to sacrifice my sectioned off garden area for a sand pit for my little man. His Mommy and Daddy worked for 12 hours straight. Hope he'll know we he gets older how much we love him!

Jackson is just about to turn fifteen months old! He is getting so tall, he's starting to thin out but all his shirts and pants are getting too short for him. These pictures are proof that I shouldn't turn my back on him even for a minute because I swear all this kid thinks about is how to climb, destroy or get into anything he can get his hands on! I let him down for seriously 30 seconds this morning and he went in the bathroom, got his body wash, and poured it all over the bathroom floor! What a silly little man. He is at such a fun age where he wants to be outside constantly exploring. He has now just stopped taking a morning nap and takes just one long afternoon nap and I like it so much better.

He got into the linen closet and took out all the blankets and used them as a stool so he could climb into the closet

Then, he ran into his room, dumped out his hamper, and then began to remove all of his nicely folded clean clothes from his dresser. He did this all in a matter of two minutes!

Well, it's that time of year again. We decided to get our pictures done professionally this year so that Jackson could get some good head shots. Unfortunately, we decided to get them done on a saturday and it was soooo busy! Our appointment was for 12:40 and they didn't take us until 2:30! It was crazy buy they turned out great and that's all that matters.

Another Trip to Utah

Ok, I haven't been on here in so long. Life just seems to be moving so fast lately. I just got back from Utah about a week ago. My baby brother Ben just got married to a wonderful girl named Michelle. Congratulations you two! I got to stay for two weeks and it was so nice being home in Orem. Cody didn't get to come cause he had to work but Jackson and I had a blast. I am so lucky to have such a big family and have so many play mates for Jackson. Love you family!

Knee Surgery

I am happy to say that my knee surgery was successful. The surgeon found a meniscus tear and also some swollen tissue that he removed. I was in a lot of pain at first but it's now five days after the surgery and I'm off crutches and off pain killers. I just have a slight limp and just a little pain still but I have almost full range of motion back which is a lot quicker than I expected. I go in to the doctor's office tomorrow to get my stitches removed. To anyone out there that has been living with knee pain for years like I was, just go to the doctor to get it looked at! I was stubborn for a long time and thought it would go away. I was also terrified of having surgery but it was fine. I hope to be back to 100% and pain free in a few weeks. Thanks for your support!

Utah

We just got back from our trip to Utah. We had so much fun but we were so busy! We drove through the night on the way there and back and we are still recovering, ha ha. Jackson had so much fun playing with his aunts, uncles, cousins and grandma and he got to meet his aunt Myndi and her family for the first time. We had a blast going to the movies, riding bikes up the canyon and going hiking to a waterfall. This trip was much more successful than our last trip to Utah where Jackson basically screemed the whole time :). I really love this stage that he's in, he is so much happier now. Sorry to those of you we didn't see, I can't beleive this trip went by so fast!

Crawling!

Ok, so I haven't been on here for a while but I had to get on to boast because my little boy is crawling! That's right, crawling! I just can't believe he's getting so big so fast. He is still really wobbly while he crawls but he is begining to figure out there's a whole new world out there to explore. Other updates: we are coming to UT july 3rd-10th so I hope to see all you who are still there. Also, I am having knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus (no idea how it happened) on July 17th. It sounds worse than it is because they just have to make two little insicions and recovery time is really fast, wish me luck! I will post a video of the baby crawling as soon as I can figure out how.

It's now up to about 108 degrees everyday in arizona :(

Trip to Utah

Jackson and I went to Utah a couple weeks ago. We had such a good time. We got to meet Jackson's cousin Max for the first time who is three months older than Jackson. They were fascinated by eachother. We got them all dressed up and took them to the mall to get their pictures taken together but everywhere was too busy. We set up our own little photo studio in Amanda's (my sister-in-law) bedroom and Amanda took pictures with her fancy camera. We were glad we didn't pay to have it done because it was crazy trying to get the kids to hold still for even two seconds! It was so hilarious, Max kept trying to grab Jackson's head and Jackson kept falling over and getting mad. We ended up with a few cute pictures though :)

Baby Food

Jackson has been eating solid food for about two weeks now. We started out with rice cereal and he did way better than we thought. He will grab the spoon and put it in his mouth. He now eats a variety of foods, his favorite is squash so far but we're still slowly trying new ones. I thought that by feeding him solid food he wouldn't want to nurse so much but he still does. It seems like this kid is growing so fast I don't even recognize him, I can almost watch him grow.

4 Month Photo Shoot

Jackson had his first official photo shoot a couple weeks ago. We went to JC Pennys because I had a coupon. We got there right on time but we had to wait 30 minutes! For those of you who have children, you know that their "happy time" is very limited. Fortunately he loved the photographer. We got a full 15 minutes of "happy time" from him and he even let us change his outfit without putting up too much of a fuss.

Jackson is growing so fast! He's started to grab things and put them in his mouth. He is also teething right now, lucky us! Supposedly he is now suppose to start teething until he is at least 4 months old but all the signs are there: he's druling uncontrolably, he is fussy a lot at night, and he has two little tooth buds at the bottom of his mouth. Other than that he is doing great! He sleeps through the night, not consistantly yet but we're still working on it. He is such a joy to me and his Daddy and we love him so much.

Here are the pictures of Jackson's blessing outfit I promised. It's a white Ralph Lauren sleeper with his initials monogrammed on it. His Grandma Powers bought it for him and I loved it! She did such a good job picking it out. It only came in a size six months but it fit him at six weeks! He has now grown out of it but I will save it forever!

I Can't Believe How Big He's Getting!

Jackson just went for his two month exam last week. He now weighs 13 lbs 6 oz and he's 23 in long! I can't keep up with how fast he's growing out of his clothes! He is now wearing 3-6 month clothes and even some 6 month outfits! He wasn't very happy to get his shots. The poor guy had a fever for two days and his legs were in pain because he screamed every time we touched them. Other than that, he's doing really good. He has started sleeping through the night on occasion. I can't wait until he's doing that consistantly! We love him so much, he's been such a blessing to us and the rest of our family.

Cody blessed Jackson today. It was a very special day. Jackson had his Grandpa and Great Grandpa Dale and uncles Kevin and Scott and friend Jeff there in the circle with him. He screamed the entire time! We could barely hear what Cody was saying but I was still bawling like a baby. Then we went to Keri's for a big family dinner. There, Cody's dad gave his mom a special blessing because she will be going in for heart surgery on tuesday. She is in our thoughts and prayers right now and we love her so much. Jackson is very lucky to have such a wonderful grandmother and she absolutely adores him. Pictures of him in his blessing outfit will be coming soon.

Loving being Mommy

Jackson and I are doing well. We are figuring out a routine and trying to get as much sleep as we can. I never knew being a Mom would be this hard but it's so worth it. Jackson is a VERY happy baby, as long as he stays full. He's meeting all his milestones, he follows things with his eyes, he's starting to find his voice and he delights us with his precious smiles.

Here's the picture that they took at the hospital. Jackson just went to the doctor's yesterday, he's gained 6 oz and all his jaundice is gone! He's doing really good, he LOVES to eat and he is just anxiously waiting for his Aunt Melanye to come visit tonight!

Jackson Cody Powers finally arrived at 12:13am on November 22, 2008 after a 20 hour labor! He was 8 lbs 3 oz and 20 inches long. Lis is recovering well and Jackson is healthy and strong. He had a little bit of Jaundice but it is mostly gone by now. Jackson is adjusting to being at home and mom and dad are adjusting to two hour sleep schedules. He is a very content little boy, especially if he's been fed. Everybody is doing well and we're so excited that Jackson is a part of our lives.

Well, here's my belly at 40 weeks. This will be the last belly picture. I went to the doctor last tuesday and she told me I was only dilated to a one but sent me to the hospital because I had high blood pressure. After a short stay in triage, they did some testing and everything turned out fine so they just sent me home. My due date is on the 18th and we're just playing the waiting game right now. Cody has been so wonderful and helpful and I don't know what I'd do without him. If I haven't gone into labor before friday, I do have a scheduled induction friday morning at 5:30 a.m. We will let everyone know when it happens!!

Today, Cody and I went to our Birthing Preparation class. It was four hours long! Although it was boring, Cody and I do feel a little more prepared. Here's a picture of me at 36 weeks. I feel like I'm going to pop!
